Custom Asian Furniture

Built by The Delnero Fine Furniture & Cabinetry Company, Fort Plain, N.Y.

This beautiful table sits in the center of the newly opened store of Casa Tile, located at 309 North Bedford Rd., Mount Kisco, NY. We were introduced to owner Melissa Cotto, through Christine Broda. The two have enjoyed a 12 year working relationship. Chris shared with us of an opportunity to also work with Melissa. We currently are planing to build kitchen cabinet displays for her store. It has been nothing less than a pleasure getting to know, and working with Melissa.

An isometric rendering by Christine Broda, Architect. This custom made Japanese styled table / desk measured 72" long x 42" wide x 30" high. Over the last few years, we have built other pieces, including a full set of breath-taking walnut and maple kitchen cabinets designed by Chris in the Asian style.

This custom walnut desk featured 4 drawers (2 per side) that ran on Blumotion drawer slides. The massive legs, pedestal shelf, and upper supports beautifully handle the solid granite counter top in a clean, modern Asian design and look.

Building the Asian Table / Desk

The ends of the upper supports were built with dovetail construction. Though it wasn't easy to cut the pins and tails into these long support boards, the finished detail was worth the time.

A shot of the inside framework that will support the weight of the granite counter, and securely hold the legs.

The frame work was built of 8/4" thick northern white pine. Notice that the vertical boards that the legs will be built upon go up through all the horizontal members. This construction method was chosen to keep the table legs from racking.

Justin is securing the inside portions of the legs. It will be fastened with glue, and 16 wood screws that will be hidden inside the leg when the outer sections are added.

The outside sections were designed to only have 4 screws visible under the trestle extension. These would eventually be plugged in matching walnut.

Here, the desk is ready to be completely plugged. The last job was the fitting of the drawers.

The table needed to be designed to come apart between the base and the upper support section. The reasons were, we needed to sand the lower parts without the upper section being in the way, and it would be much easier to apply the finish if the table was in two separate sections.
